Hyderabad, Jun 27: A couple from Hyderabad, arrested for allegedly live-streaming their sexual acts via a mobile app, told police they resorted to the activity due to severe financial distress and the pressing need to fund their daughters’ education.
The 41-year-old man, a car driver, and his 37-year-old wife, a homemaker, were taken into custody on Thursday from their home in Mallikarjuna Nagar, Amberpet. Police seized high-definition cameras, phones, tripods, and digital payment records used in their operations.

According to police, the couple began uploading and live-streaming explicit content through a paid app, where users—mostly young adults—paid Rs 2,000 for live sessions and Rs 500 for recorded clips. The couple used masks to conceal their identities and reportedly earned more from this than the man’s earnings as a driver.
The couple’s daughters are both high-achieving students. One is in the second year of a BTech course, while the younger daughter recently scored 468 out of 470 in her intermediate exams and is preparing for college.
Officers said the man was also facing health issues and was unable to afford treatment, further compounding their financial troubles. They admitted during questioning that they saw this activity as a quick means to cope with expenses.
The East Zone Task Force, acting on a tip-off, raided the house on June 17 and caught the couple preparing for a live session in a semi-nude state. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the IT Act, and police have begun issuing notices to individuals who purchased the content.
Investigations are ongoing.
