Indiana, Jun 25: The Indiana Fever have waived veteran forward DeWanna Bonner, granting the 16-year WNBA star an unconditional release following a five-game absence due to personal reasons.
Bonner, who signed with the Fever in February, averaged 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in nine games, starting in just three. She requested the release, citing that the team fit hadn’t worked out as hoped. “I appreciate the organization’s willingness to grant my request to move on,” Bonner said, wishing the team success.
A five-time All-Star and longtime starter, Bonner recently became third on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. She’ll remain on waivers for 48 hours, with her $200,000 contract available for claiming. If unclaimed, she becomes an unrestricted free agent.
The Fever, meanwhile, re-signed guard Aari McDonald, who impressed during a recent hardship contract stint. She averaged 11 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game. “Aari was a clear fit with our style and mentality,” said Fever GM Amber Cox.
