Scribe Vijay Kotyan bestowed with ‘Brand Mangaluru’ award for outstanding journalism

Mangaluru, June 24: Senior journalist Vijay Kotyan of Vijaya Karnataka has been selected for the prestigious ‘Brand Mangaluru’ award by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association. The award recognises exemplary reportage that promotes goodwill and harmony.

Kotyan received the accolade for his impactful report titled “Asif Who Donned the Tiger’s Costume”, published in Vijaya Karnataka on October 2, 2024.

The award includes a cash prize of Rs 5,001, a citation, and a memento. The selection committee for the Brand Mangaluru award comprised CCRB ACP Geetha Kulkarni, senior journalist Jaideep Shenoy and journalism lecturer Guruprasad, according to a press release by Jitendra Kundeshwar, general secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association.

Vijay Kotyan began his journalism career with Hosadiganta and has been associated with Vijaya Karnataka for over 20 years. He has previously been honoured with the P G Award for 2019-20, the B S Venkatarama State Award in 2022 for his scoop on drug-related issues presented at the State Journalists’ Conference held in Kalaburagi, and the prestigious ‘Abhimani Datti Award’ by the Karnataka Media Academy.

Kotyan is the son of Gopal Poojary and Kamala from Bondantila village in Neermarga taluk.

The award ceremony will be held on June 25 at 11 am at Patrika Bhavana, where Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy will present the award. Srinivasa Nayak Indaje, president of the District Working Journalists’ Association, will preside over the event. Also present will be Press Club president P B Harish Rai and Patrika Bhavana Trust president R Ramakrishna
