Beijing, Jun 23: India capped off an impressive campaign at the World Para-Powerlifting World Cup in Beijing with a total haul of five medals, as Jhandu Kumar delivered a stirring performance on the final day to claim bronze in the Men’s 80kg category.

Lifting 187kg and 192kg in two powerful back-to-back attempts, Jhandu sealed his spot on the podium and provided a strong finish to India’s run in the global event. His effort was widely applauded, adding to the nation’s growing stature in the para-powerlifting arena.

India's final medal tally stood at one gold, one silver, and three bronze – one of the country’s most successful outings at the World Cup in recent years.

JP Singh, Chief Coach of the Indian Para-Powerlifting Team, hailed the team's grit and discipline. “Jhandu’s performance was a perfect way to close our campaign. Our lifters have shown heart, discipline, and potential. With five medals, we are on the right trajectory, and I believe we will see even greater results leading into Los Angeles 2028,” he said.

The other bronze medals were secured by Ramubhai B. Bambhava in the Men’s up to 72kg category and Gulfam Ahmed in the Men’s up to 59kg class.

This World Cup served as a key ranking event under the 2025–2028 World Para-Powerlifting season, playing a crucial role in determining qualification for the Los Angeles Paralympics.

Host nation China dominated the medal standings with 38 medals, including 26 gold, followed by Uzbekistan with 24 medals.
