New Delhi, Jun 23: India has intensified its evacuation efforts under Operation Sindhu, bringing home an additional 285 citizens from Iran late Sunday night. With this latest batch, the total number of Indians repatriated from the conflict-ridden region now stands at 1,713.
The ongoing mission unfolds against the backdrop of escalating hostilities in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel. Passengers on the most recent flight hailed from across the country, including Delhi, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is spearheading the operation, reaffirming its commitment to the safety and welfare of Indians overseas. BJP spokesperson Yaser Jilani lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, calling the government’s swift response a reflection of India’s citizen-first approach.

“Operation Sindhu is yet another example of India placing its people at the centre of its foreign policy,” said Jilani. “With each flight, we are proving that in times of global crisis, India is willing to go the extra mile to bring its citizens home.”
He also highlighted the government’s growing urgency as the regional conflict deepens, stating that “India is taking proactive, ground-level measures to ensure no Indian is left behind.”
Meanwhile, with Israeli airspace closed due to the ongoing conflict, several Indian nationals remain stuck in Israel. The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has urged them to register and secure the necessary travel documentation to exit via land routes into Jordan and Egypt. India is expected to arrange additional evacuation flights from those countries.
In Iran, the Indian Embassy continues to facilitate relocations from high-risk zones to safer regions. It is actively monitoring developments and coordinating transport options for citizens awaiting evacuation.
Indians currently in Iran are strongly advised to maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran through its emergency helpline or the MEA's 24/7 Control Room in New Delhi.
