Ivory coast man held in Mumbai for smuggling cocaine worth Rs 11.39 cr

Mumbai, Jun 23: In a major drug bust, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested an Ivory Coast national who had ingested 67 capsules of cocaine valued at Rs 11.39 cr.

The accused had arrived in Mumbai from Sierra Leone on June 19. During interrogation, he confessed to smuggling the narcotics. He was hospitalised with court approval, where medical staff recovered a total of 1,139 grams of cocaine from his body. The seizure was made under provisions of the NDPS Act. A probe is underway to trace the sender and intended recipient of the consignment.

In a similar case last month, a Ugandan national was held in Mumbai for smuggling cocaine worth Rs 8.66 crore. The man had swallowed 80 pellets of the drug, which were later recovered during medical examination.
