Mangaluru, Jun 19: Mangaluru police have issued a clarification regarding a recent social media post made by Sajith Shetty, in which he alleged that a “main accused” in an ongoing case had not been arrested due to certain alleged connections.
Following the post, police took cognizance of the possibility that another key accused might be involved, as claimed by Sajith Shetty. In response, the investigating officer (IO) found it necessary to examine him to ascertain the identity of the alleged accused and to determine whether any evidence supported the claim.

“In the course of any investigation, the IO is empowered to summon individuals who may have information related to the case,” police said in a statement. “Accordingly, Sajith Shetty was called to the police station for an enquiry.”
During questioning, Sajith Shetty informed the police that he had no concrete evidence and that the post had been made due to personal reasons. His statement was recorded, and he was allowed to leave.
The police emphasized that no one is above the law, regardless of social media presence or public profile. “Anyone connected to a case—whether as a witness or otherwise—is required to cooperate with the investigation under the law,” the statement read.
The department further noted that all actions taken in this matter were in strict compliance with legal procedures and the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
In a follow-up video released on June 20, Sajith Shetty stated that he was experiencing mental distress. “As the well-being of all individuals within the jurisdiction is of concern to the police, appropriate steps will be taken to ensure he receives psychiatric evaluation and counselling in view of his recent statements and videos,” the police assured.
