Jalandhar, Jun 19: In a case that has once again raised concerns over fraudulent immigration rackets, three travel agents have been booked by the Lohian Khas police for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 18 lakh under the pretext of sending her daughter abroad.

Station House Officer (SHO) Labh Singh confirmed that the accused have been identified as Satwindar Singh and Gurpiar Singh, both residents of Basti Mithu in Jalandhar, and Jatindar Singh from Rajasansi village in Amritsar.

The complaint was lodged by Jasbeer Singh, a resident of Sidhupur village, who approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jalandhar (Rural), stating that she had paid the hefty amount to the trio hoping to secure her daughter’s future overseas. However, despite the payment, her daughter was neither sent abroad nor was the money returned.

Following a preliminary inquiry, police registered a case against the accused under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), along with Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act, 2014. SHO Labh Singh said that further investigation is currently underway.
