Bantwal, June 17: Widespread damage continues across Bantwal taluk due to persistent heavy rainfall, with reports of landslides and compound wall collapses throwing normal life out of gear.
At Kelinja Nadu Walachil along the Kalladka-Vittal main road in Veerakamba village, soil erosion occurred at the roadside, and a large boulder was found to be in a dangerous position. Revenue inspector M N Ravi shifted resident Sushila, who lived nearby, to a safer location. In Kalkaru of Karopady village, a tree fell on the house of a resident named Rahmath, causing damage.










A landslide at Amtadi-Bambila road led to the closure of the road. Clearing operations were led by PWD officer Arun Prakash.
At Banglegudde in Panemangalore village, the toilet and bathroom of P B Aboobacker's house were damaged due to heavy wind and rain. In Bardottu of Thenkakajekaru village, a cow shed and compound wall belonging to Aysha P S collapsed. In Abbetto, Meramajalu village, a portion of the house wall of Nonaya was damaged due to a landslide.
At Kandige in Sangabettu village, the toilet structure of Roshan Sequeira collapsed. In Bimooda, part of Uma S Bhat’s house was damaged due to a mudslide. In Punch village, a landslide damaged Warij's house, and the family was relocated to a safe place.
In Borugudde, Panemangalore, the house of a man named Mahabal suffered severe damage. In Ermenile, Vitla Padnur, a landslide occurred behind the house of Sheena Parava, prompting relocation of the family to relatives’ homes. Officials from Vitla police and Veerakamba panchayat visited the affected area near Patra Thota on Kadoor-Kanjangad state highway and issued precautionary measures.
In Meramajalu’s Kallimaru, a mudslide occurred near the house of Poovappa Mundala. In Marenemigudde under Vitla Town Panchayat, a compound wall of Muneer’s house collapsed, posing a safety threat.
A landslide at Sunnadapoli in Pilimogaru village caused a blocked canal in Budo¯li village, flooding nearby plantations. A JCB was used to clear the canal. In Kangitota, Meramajalu, a wall of Meenakshi’s house collapsed due to a slide.
In Kalkuka of Kariyangala gram panchayat, a landslide completely blocked a road, and the panchayat has taken up relief measures. In Moodu Padukodi, the wall of a thatched house belonging to Sainaj collapsed; residents have been relocated to a safer place. In Kukkanotu Karuvelu of Biliyur, a mudslide occurred beside Abdul Razak’s house.
At Kottunja Majalu in Maninalkuru, rainwater stagnated on a road leading to four houses. At Kallamarai Mosque in Manchi village, a joint inspection with the PDO was conducted after damage to the house of a resident named Asyamma, who has now been relocated to her daughter’s home. In Timaradda of Chennaitodi, a tree fell on the plantation of Narayana Sevantaru.
Loud sound startles Kanyana residents
In Mandiyur of Kanyana village, a loud sound accompanied by mild tremors startled residents. Although no damage was reported, women in homes rushed out in fear, and youths at a nearby bus stop also heard the noise. Village accountant Anil, panchayat members, and staff inspected the site. The revenue department noted that no structural cracks were found, and the exact cause of the sound remains unknown.
