Bhopal, Jun 17: As the Congress party intensifies its organisational overhaul in Madhya Pradesh, senior leader and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has called for prioritising committed, clean-image party workers over recent entrants—especially those with prior BJP links—for district and block-level leadership roles.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rajya Sabha MP Singh stated, “Congress workers who have a clean image and the courage to work without fear of the BJP should be appointed as district and block heads. Those who have joined the Congress recently should be considered for other important roles, but not for these posts.”
Singh’s remarks come amidst the ongoing selection process led by over 60 observers appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Madhya Pradesh Congress. These observers are tasked with identifying suitable candidates as part of the party’s Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign, launched by Rahul Gandhi on June 3 in Bhopal.

Despite receiving numerous requests from party workers to back their candidatures, Singh asserted he would remain neutral. “I’ve made it clear that I will not recommend any names. The selection process must be transparent,” he said.
Observers began statewide visits on June 10 and are expected to submit their first-round reports by June 30. The campaign aims to revamp the party’s leadership structure starting at the district level, eventually reaching the grassroots—Assembly segments, panchayats, and local wards.
Congress leaders see this effort as crucial to strengthening the party’s foundation in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the upcoming state and national electoral battles.
