Panaji, Jun 15: The underpass near Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, intended to provide a safe passage for pedestrians, has now turned into a picture of neglect and misery. Once built with the promise of convenience, it now resembles a wasteland strewn with animal waste, garbage, mud, and debris, making daily commute a harrowing experience for hundreds.
Despite the filthy and unhygienic conditions, people—especially patients and their relatives coming from the other side—are left with no choice but to use the underpass. Locals and passersby say the stench and dirt are unbearable, yet authorities have turned a blind eye to the mounting civic issue.

“This is not just an issue of cleanliness, but of basic human dignity and public health,” a local resident said, adding that repeated complaints have failed to yield action.
With no immediate alternate routes and a total lack of maintenance, what was meant to ease pedestrian movement now stands as a symbol of official apathy. Citizens are demanding urgent intervention to clean and restore the underpass, stressing that access to a hospital should not mean walking through a biohazard.
