Panaji, Jun 14: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday chaired a high-level strategy meeting aimed at accelerating the state’s agricultural export potential, with a sharp focus on organic farming, infrastructure development, and farmer benefits.
Joined by Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, MLAs Premendra Shet and Deviya Rane, and senior officials, the meeting explored ways to leverage support from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for 18 key agricultural product categories.
Chief Minister Sawant highlighted Goa’s natural edge as an organically inclined state and announced the formation of a dedicated Cashew Board, a move expected to streamline promotion, processing, and exports of one of Goa’s iconic produce.
“Goa proudly stands as a naturally organic state. The new Cashew Board and revised farmer benefits will lay the groundwork for a more sustainable and export-ready agricultural sector,” Sawant said, calling for collective stakeholder effort.
The meeting also emphasized the need to strengthen organic certification under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and identified several top-performing local crops with high export value.
With plans to enhance farmer incentives and formalize Goa’s organic status, the roadmap aims to transform the state into a significant player in India’s agri-export landscape.
