Ahmedabad, Jun 13: Global tech giant Google expressed its condolences over the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad by displaying a black ribbon on its homepage a symbolic gesture of mourning and solidarity.

Hovering over the ribbon displayed the message: "In memory of the victims of the tragic plane crash."

The London-bound Air India flight AI-171, carrying 242 people including passengers and crew, crashed into the premises of BJ Medical College and the Civil Hospital shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday.

The crash, which turned the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner into a fireball within seconds, claimed 241 lives. Only one person, a British-Indian national, miraculously survived and is currently under treatment.

Among the deceased were 169 Indian nationals, 53 from the UK, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Several people on the ground also lost their lives, making it one of the deadliest air disasters in the country’s aviation history.

Eyewitnesses saw the aircraft plummet rapidly before exploding, with thick smoke billowing across the city skyline. The tragedy has left a deep scar on the city and triggered international mourning.
