New Delhi, Jun 12: In the aftermath of the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior national leaders expressed profound grief and assured swift action to support those affected.
Prime Minister Modi called the incident “heartbreaking beyond words” in a message shared on X (formerly Twitter). “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. My thoughts are with everyone impacted. I’ve been in constant contact with ministers and officials overseeing assistance and rescue operations,” he stated.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also voiced his sorrow and confirmed that disaster response teams had been immediately deployed. “Pained beyond words by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. I’ve spoken with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and the city’s police commissioner to monitor the situation closely,” he posted.
Echoing these sentiments, BJP National President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda called the crash “extremely tragic” and emphasized that he was in regular contact with state-level leaders to oversee healthcare and emergency measures. “I have spoken to Gujarat BJP President C.R. Paatil and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel for updates on medical response and relief coordination,” Nadda said.
He urged party workers to contribute actively to relief efforts, stating, “I appeal to all BJP karyakartas to support rescue operations and help affected families. May those grieving find strength, and may the injured recover swiftly.”
The ill-fated Air India flight, en route to London’s Gatwick Airport, went down shortly after departing from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members when it crashed in the Meghaninagar area, sparking widespread panic.
Authorities quickly cordoned off surrounding roads to enable rapid deployment of emergency teams. Rescue, medical, and disaster response units are currently engaged in extensive operations at the crash site.
