New Delhi, Jun 11: Nearly three years after popular Punjabi singer-rapper Sidhu Moosewala was gunned down in broad daylight, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar the alleged mastermind has openly admitted to orchestrating the murder in a chilling interview featured in a new BBC documentary released on Moosewala's birth anniversary.
In the rare phone interview, Brar offered a cold and unapologetic justification for the 2022 killing, claiming Moosewala had ‘crossed lines’ and left him and his gang with ‘no choice.’

“We had no option but to kill him. He had to face the consequences of his actions. It was either him or us. As simple as that,” said Brar, dismissing suggestions that fame or money were the motives behind the killing.
The fatal ambush took place in May 2022 near Moosewala’s native village in Punjab’s Mansa district. The 28-year-old artist was driving his Mahindra Thar when gunmen, following in two vehicles, blocked his path and opened fire, leaving him dead on the spot.
Brar claimed the conflict stemmed from Moosewala’s public support of a kabaddi tournament linked to their rivals. His backing reportedly enraged gang members, including jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
“He was promoting people we were at odds with. That didn’t sit well with Lawrence and others. They warned him to stay away, but he didn’t,” Brar told.
He further alleged that Youth Akali Dal leader Vikramjit Singh Middukhera (Vicky), an ally of Bishnoi, had tried to mediate the feud before he was shot dead in August 2021. Brar insinuated that Moosewala had a role in that killing, which prompted their decision to retaliate.
“Everyone knew what part Sidhu had in that. Cops knew it; even journalists knew it. But nobody acted because of his political clout and money,” Brar alleged. “We waited for justice. When no one did anything, we acted.”
Brar rejected any faith in the legal system, saying, “Justice doesn’t exist for people like us. Only the powerful get it.” Referring to Middukhera’s murder, he added grimly, “Vicky tried doing things the legal way. You can ask him yourself how that ended.”
Goldy Brar, who is believed to be a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, had publicly claimed responsibility for Moosewala’s murder shortly after the incident. He was later designated a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 1, 2024, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, citing his links with arms smuggling and the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International.
Despite ongoing investigations and international alerts, Brar remains at large, and no convictions have been made in the high-profile case so far.
