Patna, Jun 11: In a shocking spate of violent crimes, yet another fatal shooting rocked Patna city late Tuesday night, leaving one man dead and another battling for life. The incident occurred around 11:45 pm in the Mainpura area, marking the third murder case in the city within just three days.

According to officials, two unidentified assailants opened fire at the victims, critically injuring both. Local residents immediately alerted Patliputra police station, following which a team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Raja Kumar, one of the victims, succumbed to bullet injuries on his chest and back on Wednesday morning during treatment, confirmed SDPO (Law & Order) Patna, Nitish Chandra Dharia.

“We rushed both victims to PMCH. Unfortunately, Raja Kumar could not survive. We have called in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to collect evidence and have begun scanning nearby CCTV footage,” Dharia said.

An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons at Patliputra police station, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Investigations are underway from all possible angles, officials said.
The city’s law and order situation is under intense scrutiny, as this marks the third murder in as many days.

On Monday, a mother and daughter were gunned down in Afrabad locality under Alamganj police limits, while another person was injured. Just a day later, two bullet-riddled bodies were recovered in Patna’s Vikram block.

With crime numbers mounting, police are expected to ramp up night patrols and surveillance in sensitive zones.

The condition of the second injured victim remains critical. Authorities have urged the public to report any leads related to the case.
