Saran, Jun 11: In a tragic mishap early Wednesday morning, at least 45 Bihar Special Auxiliary Police (BSAP) personnel were injured, including 13 critically, after a sand-laden truck rammed into their bus on the Veer Kunwar Singh bridge in Saran district, police said.

The BSAP team was travelling from Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas to Siwan in a private bus when the incident occurred. The driver, Ramesh Kumar, had halted the vehicle on the left side of the Ganga river bridge due to technical issues when a speeding truck crashed head-on into the stationary bus.

Driver Ramesh Kumar was among those critically injured. “We were heading to Siwan to prepare for an upcoming event on June 20 when the crash happened,” said constable Soni Kumari, who is admitted at Sadar Hospital in Chhapra.

Saran SP Kumar Ashish said preliminary investigations suggest that the truck was overspeeding and the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision. “The impact was severe. The front of the bus was completely mangled. The truck driver fled the scene,” he added.

Local residents and a police team from Doriganj quickly reached the site to assist with rescue efforts. Several personnel were trapped inside the mangled vehicle and had to be pulled out using cranes and earth movers. The crash caused traffic disruption on the bridge, which was later cleared by police.

“We have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and identified the truck through its registration number. Efforts are on to nab the absconding driver,” SP Ashish said.

All injured personnel are currently receiving medical treatment, and further investigation is underway.
