Panaji, Jun 10: In a significant move to enhance cyber security and counter radical content online, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday launched two AI-based tools 'Spot the Scam' and 'Radical Content Analyser' developed by Goa Police in collaboration with BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus.
The tools aim to support smart policing and improve public safety in the digital realm.
“Heartiest congratulations to the students who have worked to develop these AI-based systems. These tools shall enable the police for smart policing in the state,” CM Sawant posted on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the significance of the initiative. The launch event was attended by top officials including DGP Goa Alok Kumar, IGP, DIG, and the Director of BITS Pilani Goa Campus.
The 'Spot the Scam' tool allows users to analyse websites and APK files to detect fraudulent or suspicious content. It is now available to the public through the Goa Police website, helping individuals verify websites before making online payments or bookings.
“Fake websites, especially those offering travel packages or investment opportunities, have duped many people in Goa and across India. This AI tool will help prevent such scams by verifying legitimacy before transactions,” said DGP Alok Kumar.
The 'Radical Content Analyser', on the other hand, is reserved exclusively for law enforcement agencies. It uses AI to scan and flag videos containing radical, extremist, or hate-driven content. DGP Alok Kumar explained that it will help identify digital content promoting jihadist ideologies, religious fundamentalism, mob violence, and aggressive narratives, which are often difficult and time-consuming to review manually.
“These tools represent a crucial step forward in our fight against cybercrime and digital radicalisation,” DGP Kumar said.
The initiative marks a collaborative success between Goa Police and academia, showcasing how emerging technologies can be leveraged for public security and smart governance.
