Graz, Jun 10: A tragic school shooting shook the Austrian city of Graz on Tuesday, leaving multiple people dead and injured, including students and teachers. The suspected gunman, believed to be a student, reportedly died by suicide inside a school toilet, according to Austrian broadcaster ORF.

The shooting occurred at BORG Dreierschützengasse, a federal upper secondary school located near Graz’s central train station. Police were alerted around 10 am local time, and gunshots were heard soon after.

Special forces and emergency services quickly responded to the scene. Police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun confirmed the swift deployment of units, while another spokesperson, Fritz Grundnig, said the situation was “secured” and the school had been fully evacuated.

Though officials have not confirmed the exact death toll, ORF reported that five people, including the shooter, were killed, and several others were injured. Graz Mayor Elke Kahr also confirmed that the alleged shooter was among the deceased.

Injured students were taken to Helmut List Hall, an events venue nearby, for care and safety. A police helicopter was also seen hovering over the area during the operation.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid the school zone and continue to follow official instructions. Graz, Austria’s second-largest city, remains in shock as the investigation continues.
