Los Angeles, Jun 7: Federal immigration authorities arrested 44 people across Los Angeles on Friday, sparking protests and clashes at multiple locations. ICE agents used flash bangs and crowd control methods to disperse demonstrators opposing the raids.
HSI spokesperson Yasmeen Pitts O'Keefe said warrants were executed at three sites, while advocacy groups reported arrests at seven locations, including two Home Depots, a warehouse in the fashion district, and a doughnut shop. The fashion district business was accused of employing workers with fake documents, confirmed by the US Attorney’s Office.

Protesters gathered outside detention centres and raid sites, chanting slogans like “Set them free, let them stay!” Videos showed detainees with hands tied being taken to vans.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the raids as tactics to “sow terror” in immigrant communities, calling the city “proud of its immigrants.” ICE Director Todd Lyons defended the operation, saying it targets “dangerous criminals” and averages 1,600 arrests daily.
The raids have intensified debates over immigration enforcement and its effect on local communities.
