Mangaluru, Jun 6: In response to the ongoing drinking water crisis and various public hardships caused by heavy rains, MLA Vedavyas Kamath convened an emergency meeting with officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), including the commissioner and other senior engineers.
Speaking at the meeting, the MLA expressed concern that despite the torrential rains in the city, many areas are still grappling with shortage of drinking water. He further pointed out that improper desilting of stormwater drains has resulted in rainwater entering houses, putting the public in distress.

He also highlighted that those affected by the rains are yet to receive any assistance from the corporation and raised issues regarding the irregularities in garbage disposal, which have led to complaints from citizens.
Referring specifically to the weakened bridge over the stormwater drain near Ballalbagh, Kamath said it is obstructing the free flow of water, creating artificial flooding in the area. He stressed the need for immediate action in this regard and urged officials to take all public grievances seriously and respond swiftly.
Present at the meeting were MCC commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, executive engineer Naresh Shenoy, and several other officials.
