Bantwal, Jun 6: In a surprising and emotional turn of events, a man who had left his home at the age of 13 has returned to his native village of Narikombu after a gap of 62 years.
Sanjeeva Poojary (75) from Karbettu Gowndlepal, Narikombu, had left for Mumbai along with a local resident named Thaniyappa in search of work. Over time, he lost contact with his family after leaving his job in Mumbai. Despite the family's efforts to trace him back then, he remained untraceable.
On Thursday afternoon, however, he arrived in Narikombu and surprised everyone by identifying himself and asking for his elder brother by name. The unexpected visit left the family members stunned.
Responding to their questions about where he had been and why he returned now, Sanjeeva explained that he had worked in various jobs in Mumbai. He eventually found employment in a lorry company, but after turning 60, he was no longer offered work. He then took up different small jobs and, for the past two years, had been working at a hotel in Mumbai. However, the hotel owner failed to pay him his salary.
Frustrated, Sanjeeva boarded a bus from Mumbai on June 4 and arrived in Mangaluru. From there, he travelled to Panemangalore and finally reached his hometown, Narikombu.
His return after six decades has deeply moved and astonished the local community and his long-lost family.
