Bilaspur, Jun 4: A tragic accident occurred on the Bilaspur-Raipur highway in the early hours of Monday, when a speeding Innova overturned after the driver allegedly opened the door to spit gutkha while driving at over 100 kmph. The mishap claimed the life of a 31-year-old businessman and left two others critically injured.

The deceased, Jackie Gehi, a cloth trader from Chakarbhatha near Bilaspur, had attended a late-night party and was returning home around 1.30 am. He was picked up by his friend Akash Chandani, who was accompanied by Pankaj Chhabra.

While driving, Akash reportedly opened the vehicle’s door to spit gutkha, losing control instantly. The car hit the road divider, overturned multiple times, and violently threw all three occupants onto the road. Jackie was fatally flung into a metal structure, suffering severe injuries to his head, chest, and shoulders, and died on the spot.

The Innova continued to roll, crashing into a parked commercial vehicle and a stationary Ertiga, injuring the latter’s driver. The entire incident was caught on CCTV, showing the vehicle tumbling and passengers being ejected.

Emergency services rushed to the spot following calls from passersby. Police cordoned off the area, and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital. The wreckage was later cleared to restore traffic.
