Moradabad tragedy: Toddler dies after axe thrown at monkeys hits him; family alleges foul play

Moradabad, Jun 4: A heartbreaking incident from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, has sent shockwaves across the region after a two-year-old boy lost his life in a bizarre and tragic sequence of events involving a group of monkeys and an axe.

The victim, identified as little Aarav, was playing in the courtyard of his house on Tuesday morning when the incident occurred. According to the initial version of events provided by the family, a troop of monkeys entered the house premises, prompting Aarav’s father, Lakhan Singh, to climb to the roof in an attempt to scare them away. In a desperate move, he allegedly hurled an axe towards the animals. However, in a cruel twist of fate, the weapon fatally struck Aarav, slashing his neck.

Visuals from the scene revealed blood splattered across the walls of the courtyard’s washroom — a grim reminder of the horror that unfolded.

The family reportedly rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead. Surprisingly, the family proceeded to bury Aarav’s body without informing the police, raising serious doubts and sparking controversy within the community.

Allegations of foul play soon emerged from within the family. Jitendra Singh, the child’s maternal uncle, accused Lakhan of murdering his son following a domestic dispute. He claimed that a heated altercation had broken out between Lakhan and his wife Anita the previous night. The fight reportedly resumed the next morning, during which Lakhan allegedly snatched Aarav from his grandfather’s arms and struck him with the axe — an act Jitendra believes was intended to threaten his wife but turned deadly.

“My brother-in-law often abused my sister. This wasn’t an accident. It was murder,” Jitendra alleged.

Further confusion arose after a local panchayat member, Jagat Singh Saini — a relative of Lakhan — offered an entirely different version. According to him, monkeys on the roof dropped iron rods left behind after a tent setup, one of which fatally hit the child on the head.

With conflicting narratives clouding the case, police have now stepped in to investigate the exact cause of the child’s death. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of murder, and post-mortem and forensic findings are expected to shed light on the truth behind the tragic loss of the young life.
