Beltangady, Jun 3: A herd of wild elephants caused widespread damage to crops after raiding plantations in Shettipalu near Kadirudyavara village in the taluk.

The elephants entered the farms belonging to local residents Chinnamma, Purandara Moyily, and Shaiju. Several coconuts, arecanut, and banana plants were uprooted in the attack.

Locals said wild elephant movements have been reported in the area over the past few days, with the animals repeatedly straying into plantations. With the menace escalating, residents are demanding immediate action from authorities to curb the intrusion.
