Manisha Koirala pens emotional tribute to Mani Ratnam on his 69th birthday

Mumbai, Jun 2: Celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam turned 69 today, and heartfelt wishes poured in from across the film fraternity. Among the most touching tributes was from actress Manisha Koirala, who credited the director for giving her some of the finest roles in her career.

Taking to Instagram, the 'Bombay' and 'Dil Se' actress reposted a fan club’s tribute featuring her memorable scenes from Ratnam’s films and also shared a warm photo of the duo. “Thanku @maniratnam.talkies @suhasinihasan for giving me brilliant roles n cinema that would eventually be alive long after I m gone..huge thank you sir,” she wrote.

The actress, who worked with Ratnam in the iconic films Bombay (1995) and Dil Se (1998), expressed deep gratitude for being part of cinematic creations that still resonate with audiences. She also reshared a fan post praising Ratnam as “a weaver of emotions, a painter of souls,” further highlighting the enduring impact of his work.

Joining in the birthday wishes was veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who has had a long-standing professional and personal association with the director. Sharing a monochrome picture of the two, Haasan wrote, “Happy Birthday, Mani Ratnam. From Nayakan to Thug Life, we’ve journeyed through time together — as colleagues, family, co-dreamers, and above all, as lifelong students of cinema.”

In a heartfelt note, Haasan added, “Your presence has been a source of strength — a mind I turn to in moments of doubt, and a soul deeply attuned to the language of film like few others.
