MP, May 30: In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Bara village under the Semariya police station limits of Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, three members of a family lost their lives after being struck by lightning on Thursday afternoon. The victims included a young couple and their eight-year-old son.

The deceased have been identified as Ashish Vasudeva (32), his wife Jyoti Vasudeva (26), and their minor son Kishan Vasudeva (8). The trio was reportedly standing under a mango tree near their agricultural field when tragedy struck around 1:30 pm. The lightning bolt was so powerful that all three died on the spot.

The incident has also left two other members of the Vasudeva family injured. Premlal Vasudeva (55) and a toddler, Naina Vasudeva (2), sustained serious injuries and were initially rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Semariya. Given the severity of their condition, both were later referred to the Sanjay Gandhi Medical College in Rewa for advanced treatment.

While some local reports claimed that Premlal’s wife was also injured in the incident, police authorities have denied this.

Speaking to IANS, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Umesh Prajapati of Sirmaur division, confirmed the tragedy. “The family lived in a makeshift hut in Bara village. They were caught in the storm while near the mango tree. It’s an unfortunate incident, and all three victims died instantly due to the lightning strike,” he said.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community, with villagers mourning the untimely demise of the young family. Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, especially as the region enters the pre-monsoon phase.
