Mangaluru, May 29: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to academic excellence by hosting a dynamic and enriching series of Staff Enrichment Programmes from May 22 to 28. Conducted in the serene and well-equipped school conference hall, the five-day programme aimed to inspire professional growth, foster creativity and promote innovation in teaching practices for the academic year 2025–26.

The inaugural session commenced on a reflective note with a soulful prayer led by vice principal Sr Teena, followed by a warm and cheerful welcome from Principal Sr Melissa, who introduced the newly joined staff members. She expressed heartfelt appreciation for the dedication of the teaching fraternity in securing excellent results in Grades X and XII.

Teachers whose students scored a perfect centum in subjects like Mathematics, Science, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence were honoured by Administrator Sr Carissima. Sr Melissa then addressed the educators on the profound role they play in shaping young lives, while upholding the school’s vision, mission and motto. This was followed by an engaging session by Sr Carissima, who elaborated on the Apostolic Carmel Stamp of Education through collaborative group activities, urging teachers to align their profession with the right purpose, energy, intellect and values.

The following day featured an interactive workshop led by Dr Smitha Matai from Orient Blackswan Publishers, who was introduced by Sr Teena after an opening prayer by Sr Reshma D'Souza. Dr Matai’s sessions centered around bringing classrooms alive through activities within the framework of NEP 2020, addressing strategies to engage the 21st-century learner. The day was a rich blend of progressive ideas, collaborative learning and reflective discussions, culminating in a warm vote of thanks by Tr Zanet.

The faculty was treated to a power-packed sessions by the CASK team on the third day, led by Patsy Lobo, Dr Derek Lobo and team. The day opened with a prayer by Sr Juliana and a welcome address by principal Sr Melissa, followed by a series of insightful sessions.

Vidya Shenoy addressed the growing importance of digital literacy, Patsy Lobo introduced the practice of mindfulness through the Japanese model, and Dr Derek Lobo emphasized the essential role of soft skills in preparing students for real-world challenges.

Dr Laveena Noronha sensitised teachers on the emotional wellbeing of students, urging them to be attentive to behavioural changes and provide timely guidance. The final session, led by Archie Menezes, offered practical insights on personal financial planning. The day concluded with Tr Jacqueline expressing deep gratitude to the speakers for their valuable contributions.

On the fourth day, the focus shifted to Design Thinking and Innovation, with an immersive workshop led by Dr Nisha Singh from New Saraswathi Publications. After an opening prayer by Tr Sandra Lobo and a warm welcome by Tr Nishane, Dr Singh delivered compelling and hands-on sessions that explored the practical integration of creativity and innovation into classroom practices. Her engaging style and in-depth knowledge made the workshop a truly transformative experience for the educators. The day ended with a gracious vote of thanks from Tr Ilona, who acknowledged the collective effort behind the success of the programme.

The concluding day provided a reflective wrap-up with a session by Tr Leena Jose who focused on the CBSE document on the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.

The session emphasised the importance of this document as essential reading for every educator, highlighting its student-centred vision of teaching and learning. It underscored the need to integrate 21st-century skills and foster conceptual understanding across disciplines, ensuring that teachers are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of modern learners.

Each day of the programme left the educators enlightened, empowered and energized, with fresh insights and renewed motivation to create meaningful, learner-centric classrooms.
