Pune showers spark interfaith unity as Muslim family hosts Hindu wedding

Pune, May 23: In a heartwarming gesture of interfaith solidarity, a Muslim family in Pune opened their wedding venue to a Hindu couple after a sudden downpour disrupted the latter’s marriage ceremony.

On May 20 evening, as Maheen and Mohsin Kazi’s walima (wedding reception) was underway at a hall in the Wanowrie area, heavy rains lashed the city. Just next door, Sanskruti Kawade Patil and Narendra Galande Patil were moments away from tying the knot at Alankaran Lawns when the weather turned adverse.

“Everything was set, and the saptapadi ritual was about to begin when it suddenly started pouring,” recalled a member of the Galande Patil family. “We didn’t know what to do. Then we saw the wedding reception in the hall nearby.”

With little time to spare, the family approached the Kazis and requested temporary use of the hall to complete the ceremony. The response was immediate and generous—the Muslim family not only agreed but also cleared the stage to make way for the Hindu wedding rituals.

Guests from both communities came together to help rearrange the stage, showing mutual respect for each other’s traditions. The Hindu couple was able to complete their wedding ceremony without further interruption.

The evening culminated in a shared celebration, with guests from both sides enjoying a joint meal. The two newly-wed couples—Maheen and Mohsin, and Sanskruti and Narendra—even posed for photographs together, capturing a moment of unity that transcended religion.

“It was a beautiful evening that reminded us of the strength of human kindness,” said one of the attendees. “Love and understanding stood above everything else.”
