Tel Aviv, May 23: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly condemned the "cold-blooded murder" of two Israeli diplomats, Yaron Lischinsky and Sara Milgrim, in what is being investigated as an anti-Semitic attack near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
In an emotional video statement, Netanyahu revealed that the couple was recently engaged, and the murder was an act of terror with the sole intent “to kill Jews.” He reiterated Israel’s commitment to bringing justice and called on the global community to demand the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas, expressing openness to a temporary ceasefire to facilitate this.
Netanyahu also addressed claims of aid shortages in Gaza, stating that over 92,000 aid trucks carrying 1.8 million tons of supplies had entered Gaza, but that much of it was seized by Hamas.
The Prime Minister thanked former U.S. President Donald Trump and the American people for their continued support of Israel, stating, “Together we stand. Together we'll triumph.”
Condemnations poured in from global leaders. U.S. Vice President JD Vance and President Joe Biden expressed deep sorrow, denouncing the attack as an act of antisemitic violence with no place in the United States.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar labeled the attack a consequence of escalating anti-Semitic rhetoric worldwide and announced a forthcoming IHRA conference against antisemitism in Jerusalem next week.
The fatal shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the Capital Jewish Museum, close to an FBI building. The Israeli ambassador was not present at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
