New York, May 22: Bob Odenkirk, known globally for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has added a new feather to his cap with his Broadway debut and it's already earning accolades.
The 62-year-old actor stepped onto the stage this season in David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross, currently in production at The Palace Theatre, New York City. Despite a nearly four-decade career in film and television, this marked Odenkirk’s first time on Broadway.
Speaking to People magazine, the actor described the experience as “jumping off a cliff without a parachute.” Yet, his leap of faith paid off Odenkirk received a Tony Award nomination on May 1 for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play.
“I’ve done that a lot in my career taken risks. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but there’s always something to learn,” Odenkirk said.
He credited his confidence to his recent screen work, especially his emotionally complex performances in Better Call Saul. “Those roles made me feel more prepared to take on the challenges of stage acting to dig deep and find new layers in every performance,” he added.
Odenkirk also praised his character in the play, saying, “There’s something new to discover every time I go on stage.”
