Mangaluru: MCC launches 'Tiger Operation' to clear illegal street vending, encroachments

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 22: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) carried out a ‘Tiger Operation’ on May 22 to remove unauthorized vending and encroachments on government land, footpaths, roadsides, and pavements across the city.

As part of the drive, MCC officials evicted illegal street vendors in key areas including State Bank, Kankanady, and Falnir. The action follows public complaints regarding obstructions caused by illegal vendors, which have been disrupting pedestrian movement and traffic flow.

Two days prior to the operation, MCC had issued notices to illegal vendors, warning them to vacate public spaces being misused for storing goods or operating fast food and petty shops. The corporation emphasized that such occupations are not only illegal but also pose serious inconvenience and safety risks to the public.

MCC has stated that further eviction drives will be conducted if vendors fail to comply, and legal action will also be taken against those found violating municipal rules.

The civic body has urged all vendors and business owners to cooperate with the administration in maintaining public cleanliness, safety, and smooth traffic flow within city limits.

This type of operations have been conducted several times in the past but again and again you see more and more vendors, auto 🛺 stand, auto garages occupying footpaths. If MCC is serious about providing footpaths to citizens than it should see to it that again and again the footpaths should not get occupied. Besides this what about illegal constructions carried out by builders? Why no action against them? Space meant for car parking is converted into shops and sold. Whybis MCC turning a blind eye towards this area? If MCC really wants to give citizens a better infrastructure than take action against aĺl violators once and for all.

This move is fine. There should be regular checkups. Not once in blue moon. Vendors occupying footpaths certainly brings problems to pedestrians. As such Mangaluru traffic has increased dramatically and in some places hardly any passage to walk. Keep this activity active.

MCC also should take action and punish the people who have occupied public land covering the storm water drain and providing ramp towards the road for their vehicle entry to their property. Anybody can see these type unethical ramps in google street view map. These types of ramps on roads reduces road width for vehicle movements and endangers the lives of pedestrians & two-wheelers .

"City Corporation (MCC) carried out a ‘Tiger Operation’ on May 22 to remove unauthorized vending and encroachments on government land, footpaths, roadsides" That is a right way to control flow of innumerable stalls being set up everywhere. Everything must go along as per legal system and regulations.

This is wrong. These are poor people. Our Prime Minister is encouraging people to take up street vending to reduce unemployment and poverty.
