Mumbai, May 21: A 60-year-old retired policeman residing in Mumbai has alleged that he was duped of Rs 19 lakh by seven individuals over a housing deal in Thane district, police said on Wednesday.

According to the FIR registered at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan, the victim was promised a flat in an under-construction building for Rs 21 lakh. While the accused returned Rs 2 lakh, they failed to provide the flat or refund the remaining Rs 19 lakh.

The complainant stated that the fraud took place between 2018 and May 2025. Police added that one of the accused even issued a cheque bearing a fake signature, further compounding the deception.

An investigation is underway to trace and apprehend the culprits.
