Mapusa, May 21: A decomposed body of an unidentified individual was found under the Karaswada flyover in Mapusa on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting a full-scale police investigation.

According to sources, the body was first spotted by locals, who immediately alerted the Mapusa police. Law enforcement officials reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and began preliminary inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death.

Police informed that the body was in a severely decomposed state, suggesting it had been lying there unnoticed for several days. While the identity of the deceased remains unknown, it is suspected the person may have been a homeless individual taking refuge beneath the flyover.

“We believe the deceased may have been living under the flyover. The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem is conducted,” said an officer from the Mapusa Police Station.

The forensic team has been roped in, and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled to establish both identity and cause of death. As the investigation unfolds, police are also checking missing persons’ reports and speaking to nearby residents for possible leads.

This tragic discovery has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the homeless population in Mapusa, raising concerns over the lack of proper shelter, food, and medical care for the destitute.

Locals have urged the authorities to step up welfare measures to ensure such incidents do not recur. Meanwhile, police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that might help in identifying the deceased.
