Copenhagen, May 21: India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Denmark on Tuesday, where he was warmly received by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. In a statement reflecting growing diplomatic warmth, EAM Jaishankar thanked Denmark for its unwavering support in the fight against terrorism and underscored the deepening of the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.

Taking to social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote, “Thank PM Mette Frederiksen for warmly receiving me in Copenhagen this evening. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM Narendra Modi. Thank Denmark for its solidarity and support in combating terrorism. Value PM Frederiksen's guidance to take forward our Green Strategic Partnership and widen the canvas of our cooperation.”

The meeting in Copenhagen focused on bolstering bilateral ties in green energy, sustainability, and innovation—key pillars of the partnership forged between India and Denmark. The leaders also explored avenues for expanding cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.

Jaishankar’s visit to Denmark is part of a broader official tour covering the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24.

Before arriving in Denmark, EAM Jaishankar completed a two-day official visit to the Netherlands, where he engaged in high-level discussions with Dutch leadership. His meetings included interactions with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, and Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans.

During the visit, both sides acknowledged the growing strategic alignment between India and the Netherlands. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen ties through regular high-level visits and collaborative efforts across sectors such as trade, defence, technology, water management, and health.

The MEA stated, “EAM conveyed India’s appreciation for the Netherlands’ solidarity in combating terrorism. The visit also witnessed productive dialogues on emerging areas such as digital technology, AI, green hydrogen, and semiconductors.”

Defence cooperation also took centre stage as Jaishankar and his Dutch counterpart discussed elevating security ties and mutual defence capabilities.

In addition, the EAM addressed prominent experts from Dutch think tanks on global strategic affairs, emphasizing the importance of deeper engagement between India and the European Union in today’s multipolar world.

The Minister also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, underlining India’s enduring cultural and people-to-people ties with the Netherlands.

The back-to-back high-level engagements reflect India’s growing footprint in Europe and its strategic push to foster deeper international partnerships.
