Panaji, May 17: Goa power minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar has lashed out at the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for “politicising” the issue of a proposed nuclear power plant in the state, accusing them of misleading the public and creating unnecessary panic.
Addressing reporters, Dhavalikar clarified that no formal proposal for a nuclear facility has been made by either the state or central government, and slammed the Opposition for “spreading fear” among citizens based on baseless reports.
“We never said a nuclear plant would be set up in Goa. Neither the Union Minister nor anyone in the State government has made such a statement,” he emphasized.
Dhavalikar explained that the government’s interest lies in studying emerging technologies to address Goa’s future energy requirements responsibly. “Exploring new technology doesn’t mean we’re installing a nuclear plant. It’s our duty to be informed,” he said.
He further challenged AAP and Congress to a public discussion, stating, “They don’t need to tell me what’s right for Goa. If they want to talk, I’m open to dialogue.”
Reiterating the government’s position, Dhavalikar said the priority remains identifying the safest and most effective energy solutions for the state’s long-term needs.
