Karkala, May 15: A man who had descended into a massive well located near the Sanur Cashew premises was rescued in a swift and daring operation by personnel from the Karkala Fire and Emergency Services.

The individual, identified as Harish Acharya (55), had entered the well around 11:55 am on Friday to carry out cleaning work. The well, reportedly 35 feet deep and 20 feet wide, proved too difficult to climb out of once inside, leaving him trapped and in danger.

Unable to ascend and in a perilous situation, Harish Acharya remained stuck until the Karkala fire and emergency services station officer and staff rushed to the scene upon receiving information. The team immediately launched a rescue operation, successfully lifting him out and saving his life.

The operation was led by station officer Albert Moniz, and involved the dedicated efforts of fire personnel Achyut Karkera, Hariprasad Shettigar, Jaya Moolya, Muzammil, Ganesh Acharya, and Bheemappa.

Their quick response and coordinated effort ensured that the situation did not turn tragic. The department’s promptness has been widely appreciated by locals who witnessed the operation.
