Mangaluru, May 16: A cargo vessel named MSV Salaamath, which was en route from Mangaluru to Lakshadweep, sank approximately 60 nautical miles southwest of Mangaluru after being struck by a massive wave. All crew members onboard were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard personnel.
The vessel had departed from Mangaluru port on May 12 and was expected to reach Kadmat Island on May 18. However, at around 5:30 am Indian Standard Time on May 14, the ship encountered a huge wave, resulting in its sinking. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.

The vessel was carrying cement, construction materials, and food supplies. As the vessel began to sink, the crew took shelter in a small dinghy. The crew of a nearby merchant ship noticed the stranded crew and informed the Indian Coast Guard stationed in Mangaluru.
Responding swiftly, the patrolling ICGS Vikram rescued all crew members from the dinghy, administered first aid, and brought them safely to New Mangalore Port on Thursday.
