New Delhi, May 14: India is setting its sights on the technological frontier of 6G, with the government declaring it a revolutionary leap that will far surpass the capabilities of 5G. At the Bharat 6G 2025 International Conference and Exhibition in New Delhi, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, described 6G as a “completely different network” with speeds up to 100 times faster and latency reduced to sub-millisecond levels.

“While 5G has been transformative, 6G will redefine connectivity,” Dr. Pemmasani said. “It will come with built-in artificial intelligence, creating intelligent networks that power everything from healthcare and education to agriculture and industry.”

He acknowledged existing challenges with 5G—such as high data demands and limited spectrum availability—but said such hurdles are intrinsic to the evolution of next-generation technologies.

The minister noted that while 5G is still in early stages of rural rollout, especially through Wi-Fi solutions in villages, 6G will mark a monumental shift. “The move from 4G to 5G was significant. But the move from 5G to 6G will be nothing short of transformative,” he said.

India's ambition is not only to adopt 6G but to be a global leader in its development. This vision, originally laid out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2023, includes strategic partnerships with countries like Japan, Singapore, and Finland, and a strong focus on areas such as terahertz communication, AI-driven systems, and smart network infrastructure.

The Bharat 6G Conference is part of a broader national roadmap aiming for global leadership in 6G innovation by 2030. The minister emphasized that beyond technological progress, 6G will serve as a catalyst for socio-economic development, particularly in underserved sectors.

“India is ready to lead, not follow. With the right ecosystem and innovation mindset, we can shape the future of global connectivity,” Dr. Pemmasani concluded.

As the world prepares for the next wave of digital transformation, India is signaling its readiness to be at the forefront—pioneering not just the deployment, but also the definition of 6G standards for the world.
