Karkala set to receive Rs 116 crore grant under Swadesh Darshan scheme

Karkala, May 8: In a significant boost to tourism development in Karkala is set to receive a grant of Rs 116 cr under the Centre’s Swadesh Darshan scheme. The announcement was made by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, minister of culture and tourism during his visit to Karkala tourism attractions on Wednesday May 08.

The Swadesh Darshan scheme, a flagship initiative of the central government, focuses on developing tourism infrastructure across the country. Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar had earlier submitted a comprehensive report to the union tourism department requesting the inclusion of various tourist destinations in his constituency under the scheme.

Union minister Shekhawat, after visiting the historic Anekere and Ramsamudra areas in Karkala, confirmed that the grant will be sanctioned once the Karnataka state government's report is submitted. He lauded the efforts of MLA Sunil Kumar for actively pursuing the project and showing commitment to the development of tourism in the constituency.

During the visit, the minister offered prayers at the Kere Basadi located in Anekere and appreciated the spiritual and environmental significance of the site. He also inspected the Anekere Nisargadham and other nearby attractions, assuring full support and necessary funding for their development.

A request was made for additional grants for the comprehensive development of Anekere Chaturmukh Kere Basadi, Varanga Chaturmukh Kere Basadi, and Ramsamudra, considering their tourism potential.

Speaking to the media, MLA Sunil Kumar stated that the tourism development project will be carried out in two phases and expressed confidence in receiving the sanctioned grant. He extended gratitude to Minister Shekhawat on behalf of the people of Karkala for his support.

The Union Minister was welcomed in Karkala by a delegation that included Udupi MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi district commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, senior leaders from the BJP, civic dignitaries, and district officials.
