Jabalpur, May 6: In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked the academic community, a second-year BTech student has been arrested for allegedly recording objectionable videos of a fellow female student while she was bathing at a hostel in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

According to police officials, the incident came to light on Sunday when the victim approached the hostel warden, stating that she suspected someone had secretly recorded her in the bathroom. The victim, a senior student, alleged that the accused had not only filmed her but also circulated the footage to her male acquaintances in Delhi.

The accused, identified as a B.Tech Computer Science student hailing from Maharashtra, was staying in the same hostel as the victim. The college administration, along with the hostel warden and a group of female students, launched an internal search, following which the accused was identified and taken into custody.

“The hostel warden has confirmed the identity of the accused, and a high-level inquiry committee consisting of four members has been formed to investigate the matter,” a female staff member and convenor of the probe team informed media persons on Monday.

Dumma Police Station officials, who are handling the case, stated that the accused has confessed to her actions during interrogation. She has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act for violation of privacy and transmission of obscene content.

Two mobile phones and a laptop have been seized from the student and sent for forensic analysis to uncover the extent of data storage and transmission.

“This is a serious breach of trust and privacy. The investigation is ongoing, and we are verifying the content shared and the platforms used,” a senior police officer confirmed.

Meanwhile, the victim has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation, seeking justice and appropriate action against the accused.

The incident has sparked outrage on the campus and raised questions about the safety and monitoring mechanisms in student hostels.
