Fire at Mumbai garment showroom doused after 2 hours; 8 people, pets rescued

Mumbai, May 5: A major fire broke out early Monday morning at a garment showroom on the ground floor of the Shukhshanti residential building in the upscale Peddar Road area of south Mumbai, civic officials said.

The blaze, reported at around 6:38 am, prompted a swift response from the fire brigade, which battled the flames for over two hours before bringing the situation under control.

Though no injuries were reported, officials confirmed that eight residents were safely rescued from the first floor, while five pets were evacuated from the fourth floor of the six-storey building.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
