India eyes global leadership in MICE industry, targets $100 Billion market by 2030

New Delhi, May 5: India’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry is poised to become a key economic driver, with the potential to generate high-quality employment and significantly contribute to the national economy, the government announced on Monday.

Speaking at a tourism event in Jaipur, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said the MICE sector is fast evolving into a global force, supported by India’s strong economic fundamentals, modern infrastructure, and proactive policy environment.

“States are unlocking tourism in their own unique ways. Now, it’s time for India to make its mark on the global MICE map,” the minister said, highlighting India’s iconic venues like Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi, and Jio World Centre as major assets.

He added that the government aims to transform at least 10 Indian cities into leading global MICE destinations, with an emphasis on regional development and international competitiveness.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and with progressive states like Rajasthan blending legacy with innovation, India is shaping up to be the world’s most admired destination for tourism and business events.

The Indian MICE market, valued at $49.4 billion in 2024, is projected to more than double to $103.7 billion by 2030, growing at a robust 13% CAGR. Contributing to this surge are rapidly developing MICE-ready cities like Varanasi, Khajuraho, and Kochi.

India’s infrastructure transformation—marked by over 1.5 lakh km of new roads, upgraded railway networks, semi-high-speed trains, inland waterways, more than 150 airports, and over 2.48 million hotel rooms—has played a critical role in enabling this growth.

Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, emphasized that India’s G20 presidency had been a catalyst. “PM Modi’s vision has opened new opportunities. Now it’s time for states to capitalize—from deregulation to concert tourism, India can become a global epicentre for events and experiences,” he said.

Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President of FICCI, echoed the sentiment, stating, “India is no longer just a leisure destination. We’re ready to lead on the global MICE stage.”

India should talk less and work more. The manner in which G20 is being quoted by the government cheer leaders looks like India is the only country that has organised G20 event ever. Come on - grow up. Learn from China to talk less and do the hard work.
