Sabarkantha, May 4: The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) continues to serve as a lifeline for economically weaker sections across India, providing critical healthcare access at no cost. Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district has emerged as a model of the scheme’s success, with more than 36,000 beneficiaries receiving healthcare services worth over Rs 87 cr in the past year.

The scheme, aimed at covering secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation for nearly 55 cr individuals, has effectively reached not just urban areas but also remote villages in the district.

Mohammad Hamid from Vadali shared how Ayushman Bharat came to his rescue after a serious accident. “The treatment in a private hospital would have cost us Rs 70,000 to 80,000. But at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital, we received excellent treatment at no cost under the Ayushman Yojana,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Ganpatbhai Solanki from Kankanol village, who had suffered from mobility issues for years, also underwent a successful surgery under the scheme. “The treatment would have cost us Rs 2-3 lac privately. We are truly grateful to the Modi government,” his family said.

The scheme offers Rs 5 lac health cover per family annually, targeting 12.34 cr families, which make up the bottom 40% of India’s population. Its growing reach and impact are helping bridge the healthcare gap between rural and urban India, ensuring no citizen is denied treatment due to financial constraints.
