Amritsar, May 1: In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police’s Counter-Intelligence unit has successfully dismantled an international narcotics smuggling network, seizing five kilograms of heroin and uncovering a cross-border drug operation with links to Pakistan-based smugglers.

The operation, led by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, revealed that the narcotics ring was being run by Jassa, a foreign-based operator, along with his associates. The network had connections to Jodhbir Singh (alias Jodha), a resident of Amritsar, who acted as the key India-based associate responsible for receiving and distributing heroin consignments across the country.

“Jodhbir Singh was actively involved in retrieving heroin and funneling proceeds back to Pakistan through hawala channels,” said DGP Yadav.

A raid led to the recovery of five kg of heroin, a currency counting machine, and other incriminating evidence. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities now focusing on arresting Jodha and his foreign accomplices to disrupt the larger narcotics pipeline.

The FIR has been registered in Amritsar, and further operations are underway to curb the smuggling network’s activities.

In a separate operation, Punjab Police foiled a terrorist plot, arresting five members of a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module in Amritsar. The group, linked to gangster Jiwan Fauji operating from abroad, had planned a grenade attack on police establishments.

Among those arrested were Naresh Kumar, Abhinav Bhagat, Ajay Kumar, and Sunny Kumar, all residents of Haripura, Amritsar, along with a 17-year-old juvenile. Police recovered a hand grenade, a country-made .32 pistol, and cartridges. The group had been receiving weapons from the Ajnala sector, tasked with carrying out the terror plot.

DGP Yadav emphasized that the arrested individuals had been radicalized and were actively plotting violent activities with the support of foreign-based operators.
