Bhanwari Devi Case: More Items Recovered

Jodhpur, Jan 8 (IANS): Forensic teams Saturday recovered some more items from a crater and a canal near here, suspecting to be belonging to missing nurse Bhanwari Devi, sources said. Meanwhile, a local court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a Congress legislator's sister, who is absconding and named in the case.

Indra Bishnoi is the sister of Congress legislator from Luni constituency Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, who has been arrested in the case.

An arrest warrant has already been issued against Indra. Sources said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is carrying out raids and will arrest her as soon as she is traced.

She had filed an anticipatory bail application in the special Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes cases court, which rejected the plea.

It is believed Indra was close to Bhanwari Devi, who is missing since Sep 1 and remains untraced.

"Indra has been summoned for questioning several times but she did not turn up. She is missing," a source added.

Earlier in the day, a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team recovered some more items from a crater and a canal near Jaloda village in rural Jodhpur.

After having recovered two guns, a gunny bag, a bat and some bone fragments over the past two days, the CBI and CFSL teams reportedly found more definitive evidence from the spot Saturday suggesting that Bhanwari was burnt to ashes and her remains were dumped in the canal.

The items recovered include a charred mobile phone, a locket, watch and bracelet which the CBI sources say might belong to the nurse.

"These are more clinching evidence than what had been recovered earlier. It is almost certain that they belonged to the nurse," a source in the CBI told IANS.

Bhanwari Devi, allegedly shown in a compromising position with sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna in a CD, had gone missing Sep 1 last year.

In a chargesheet filed in court earlier by the CBI, it was alleged that three men kidnapped the nurse from Jodhpur's Bilara area Sep 1, killed her and then handed over her body to a gang of criminals headed by Bishnaram Bishnoi.

According to sources close to the CBI, Maderna and Malkhan Singh were hand-in-glove in the entire conspiracy as the nurse was blackmailing both of them.

Maderna was believed to be blackmailed on the basis of the CD showing him in a compromising position with the nurse.

The two politicians allegedly roped in Sahiram Bishnoi, who hired Sohan Lal, Balia and Shahabuddin for the task of kidnapping the nurse.

Maderna, Malkhan, the three kidnappers and Sahiram along with Amarchand, husband of Bhanwari Devi, have been arrested by the CBI. Amarchand is at present in judicial custody.

The CBI also arrested Malkhan's brother Parasram Bishnoi as well as two others - Umesharam and Omprakash Bishnoi
