Strong Quake Hits Siberia


Moscow, Dec 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A 6.5-magnitude quake hit the southern Siberian republic of Tuva Tuesday but there was no damage or casualties, an official said.

"Everything is all right. Our dispatchers work round the clock and they did not receive any calls on any destruction," the spokesman for the regional emergencies ministry said.

The tremor occurred around 11.20 p.m. and its epicentre was at a depth of 10 km, some 120 km east of the city of Kyzyl, the Russian Academy of Sciences said.

The local residents were warned about the possibility of aftershocks and were advised to leave their homes, the spokesman added.
