Uttarakhand, Haryana in Quarters of National Basketball


Chennai, Dec 22 (IANS): Uttarakhand and Haryana in the men's section, and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh in the women's division advanced to the quarter-finals of the 62nd senior National basketball championships here Wednesday.

In the pre-quarter-final matches, Uttarakhand, powered by Trideep Rai (44) overcame Karnataka 107-86 in a high scoring game while Haryana, with Deepak Rathee (32) playing the lead role, edged past Andhra Pradesh 98-87.

Meanwhile, Karanataka women had the measure of Andhra Pradesh 85-67 and Uttar Pradesh proved far too strong for Punjab winning 79-52.

The quarter-final line-up is:

Men: Kerala vs Services; Delhi vs Indian Railways; Tamil Nadu vs Uttarakhand; Punjab vs Haryana.

Women: Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra; Kerala vs Chhattisgarh; Indian Railways vs Karnataka; Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh.

Men: Uttarakhand 107 (Trideep Rai 44, Murali Krishna 17) bt Karnataka 86 (A Aravind 21, Jijin K Joseph 19). Ht: 63-41.
