Berdych Seals Semis Berth in World Tour Finals

London, Nov 26 (IANS): Seventh seed Thomas Berdych of the Czech Repuclic grabbed the final semi-final spot by beating Spain's David Ferrer 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Going into the match the Czech needed a victory in the last Group A match to stay in the tournament while Ferrer had already booked his place after two straight set victories over World No.1 Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

"The turning point, I think it was just the one that I made the set point and won the second set, because all the time before I was down," said Berdych, who broke in the 12th game to take the second set. "When I made the second set, it just gives me a lot of confidence, energy," Berdych was quoted saying by the ATP official website.

Djokovic failed to qualify after his loss to Serbian compatriot Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 3-6 and 3-6 earlier and had his hopes pinned on Ferrer defeating Berdych to advance.

"I don't like this counting, so I don't even look at that," Berdych added.

The Czech after topping his Group will now face Frenchman Jo- Wilfried Tsonga while Ferrer will go up against 16-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer.
