Sharjah : Helicopter Rescues Residents from Major Fire in Al Nahda Tower


Sharjah, Nov 9 (Emirates 24 x 7): A major fire broke out at a residential building in Al Nahda, Sharjah, this afternoon.

According to eyewitness reports, the building, Al Aleeka, is a high-rise near Al Nahda park and several floors were burning, before the fire was brough under control by 4.30pm.

According to one eyewitness report, people had climbed up on to the terrace of the building and a rescue helicopter landed to airlift them.

At the time of filing this report there was no official confirmation on injuries.

However, several residents of the area were reporting huge plumes of black smoke blanketing the Sharjah skyline.

Civil Defence and rescue teams had gathered at the site and rescue operations were underway.
